The original Scotch pie was made with minced mutton. Being very much on the purist side of culinary classics, at The Kitchen Door we are using a top quality minced mutton, fresh diced onion and rosemary from our herb garden and baked in a hot water pastry case.
The pastry is the same type of pastry that we use for our famous Pork Pies. This pie is also known as the football pie back in Scotland. Apparently, while watching a football match and during the half time interval, the hot Scotch pies would fly out from the vendors and be readily consumed by the dedicated and freezing cold football supporters. Pie in one hand topped with soggy chips and a cup of bovril in the other hand and who would care if your team was playing rubbish hey!
